GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY
Here here, Amanda Rose, CEO, Entrepreneur & Small Business Women Australia.
I agree, it’s time to end the war on small business. Small business should be a priority for every Federal Government. State and local government too.
Small businesses work constantly looking for ways to create efficient workplaces. You know, ways to save costs, increase productivity, be competitive, and adapt to achieve success.
We expect the same in government. Right? We want our governments to be efficient. Right? We expect new regulations or amended laws, to not be overly complex, excessive, and unnecessary. Right?
Well, the Toowoomba Chamber wants government efficiency too.
That is why, the Toowoomba Chamber as part of its federal Government election advocacy, is seeking the establishment of a red tape business taskforce to address the core challenges facing small business. Matters such as inefficient government laws,
inefficiently and inconsistently implemented, inefficient government workplaces, with poor response times, creating lengthy delays.
Why? Because these factors place an increased cost burden on business and results in increasing costs of delivery services and products to everyday Australians.
Yes, an inefficient government, whether, local, state or federal creates a cost-of-living burden on its residents.
Just as we have asked the Toowoomba Regional Council, and state government, it is time, that the Federal Government also put a blow torch on these challenges, and work closely with local businesses and other Chamber of Commerce’s, like ours, to find solutions to the overwhelming burden being placed on business.
The stats don’t lie, without small business, 42% of the nation’s workforce or 5 million people would be unemployed. The economy would have a $500 billion black hole. The nations GDP would drop by a third. This is why, the Toowoomba Chamber continues to advocate for the creation of a ‘Red Tape Taskforce’ between business and the Federal government, to interrogate regulation, remove unnecessary laws, and help businesses, the backbone of the economy, thrive and prosper.
Will a Department of Government Efficiency help? A Minister for Government Efficiency?
It seems prima facie, that this has the potential be an integral cog in delivering one of our core advocacy components being: A mechanism to interrogate and remove excessive, unnecessarily complex regulation to build business confidence and our nations competitiveness.
