CHRONICLE COLUMN | BUY LOCAL TOOWOOMBA THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
In Queensland, many businesses are bracing for, well not a great, holiday period, so we are encouraging Buy Local Toowoomba. The feedback provided to the Business Chamber Queensland, states that business conditions, sentiment and expectations in Queensland are showing no signs of improvement with confidence in the future of the state and national economies weak ahead of the traditionally busy Christmas period.
And you do not have to look to much further afield to read stories from other states of the anticipated retail crunch this holiday season. For example, the Sydney Morning Herald reports a whopping 61% of New South Wales business community are expecting a slower than normal Christmas period.
Accountants Daily, outlines this national pessimism for small business, but suggests Queensland is the exception to the rule. Are we the exception?
Then, if my Tik Tok is any guide, well if any of my general digital platform interaction is any guide, no doubt swayed by algorithms, disaster is looming, and we should all boycott Coles and Woolworths this Christmas.
Confused?
Combine this will new IR laws smashed through parliament. Prima facie the new laws appear to suggest that in some instances employers should be paying everyone doing the same job, regardless of experience, amongst other things. If true, this seems outrageous, but I will reserve my final thoughts and views as research continues and we reach out to organisations like the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Australian Business Council.
I have concluded, what the hell is going down this holiday season.
With all this hullabaloo going on, how bout, we look to each other, connect with each other and directly support each other and Soak Up Local this Holiday Season.
Know, it is a fact, that some local business will be, are doing it tough. I encourage everyone to go and buy as much of your holiday fare from our local businesses.
